The 3 Portfolios
Finishes
  • Do the finishes in the different product lines match?

In most cases, yes.  This is driven by the finish code.  If the finish code is the same for a finish that is available in both the Estate and Reserve lines, it will match.

Prestige has much fewer finishes and the codes differ in some cases.  These will not be guaranteed to match with either Reserve or Estate.

  • What does PVD mean?

PVD stands for physical vapor deposition and is the strongest and most durable protective coating in the industry.

The PVD process includes multiple layers of nickel plating that are electrified in a vacuum to fuse the layers together to create a coating impervious to harsh weather conditions and heavy use over time.

All PVD product in the Estate line carry a lifetime finish warranty and all PVD product in the Reserve line carry a 25 year finish warranty.  These warranties are guaranteed to the original purchaser of the hardware.

  • How should I clean my hardware?

For the majority of our finishes, we suggest using warm, soapy water and then towel-dry the hardware.

  • How can I enhance the oil-rubbed bronze finish on my hardware?

Occasionally apply light machine oil to deepen the color and sheen of the untouched portions of the product. Coat the metal parts with oil and let it stand for a few minutes, then gently dab off (do not rub) , the excess with a clean cloth.

Never use abrasives, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals to clean your products. The purpose of the oil rubbed bronze finish is to patina overtime.

  • Why is the finish on the product I purchased different from the finish on the display I saw at the store?

There are two subset of Baldwin finishes where variance can be seen:

    • If you selected a living finish, there is no protective coating on that finish and over time it will change and patina over time by design.
    • If you selected a product that includes hand-relieving, variances in luster, hue and appearance are the result of the final stages of the finish development which are handcrafted and will vary. This is also by design, as these finishes represent a hand relieved artisan style.
