Archetypes

Illustrating the design mantra “Spirit of Place,” Baldwin’s designers move beyond line for line reproduction to capture the total ambience of places that inspire.

The three series within the Archetypes Collection – Villa, Chateau and Craftsman – pay homage to different periods in history, yet share a love for authentic design demonstrated through intricate details. Whether recalling the symmetry and form of a Palladio pediment or the climbing acanthus vines of the Loire Chateau, Archetypes is inspired home hardware that expresses the history and architectural aesthetics of other times and places.

How Archetypes is Made

Baldwin hand crafts each piece of its Archetypes Collection through a process known as precision casting – the oldest and most respected method of casting today. Also known as lost wax casting, this method dates back thousands of years when natural beeswax was used to mold and pattern copper, bronze and gold on the tombs of Egyptian royalty. Today precision casting utilizes high-technology waxes, high heat materials and specialty alloys, to create the most exact method of creating complex detailing unmatched by conventional manufacturing techniques.
